Robert Cerny has released version 4 of his Topincs Topic Maps-based wiki and knowledge management tool. A major change in this version is that it now uses TMCL (according to the latest draft) to represent the topic map schema. As far as we are aware, this is the first TMCL implementation to be released. For more information, please see the announcement.

New Onotoa release: 1.1.1

Notes from Leipzig ISO meeting
Thursday, November 26th, 2009The notes from the first day of the Leipzig ISO meeting have now been posted. Here’s a quick summary of the status of each of the items discussed.
XTM 2.1
The first set of notes deals with XTM 2.1, and basically the XTM 2.1 proposal was passed by the committee. A few very minor additions were made, such as the decision to apply for a registered MIME-type for XTM, but the substance of the proposal is as it was when Lars Heuer first made it.
The process of applying for an XTM MIME-type has started, with a brief discussion on the ietf-types mailing list, and the application has been submitted as an Internet-Draft. So far there has been no reply to the application (which is normal).
The first implementation of XTM 2.1 is already released, in Mappa’s tm.reader.xtm version 0.1.5.
However, it will take a while before XTM 2.1 becomes an official ISO standard. The editors are currently requesting that SC34 start the revision process of ISO 13250-3 (which is XTM). This will probably be approved at the Stockholm meeting in March, and the XTM 2.1 draft will then go out for a 3-month CD ballot. After that it will go through the FCD, FDIS, and IS stages as quickly as possible.
TMQL
The second set of notes is about the new proposed TMQL path language. The main thing to take away here is that the proposal met a generally positive reception, but that many open questions remain.
The next step is for the editors to do some editing, and come back with a more complete proposal based on the feedback they received.
TMCL
The third set of notes is about TMCL and the decisions made on it. The decisions made were mostly of the “we won’t do this”-type or minor extensions. A new draft should follow before too long. (The Seattle notes were delayed, but are now also available.)
TMCL issues
Thursday, November 5th, 2009A set of slides describing the open TMCL issues to be discussed at the ISO meeting in Leipzig next week have been published. The editors are actively seeking feedback on these issues, and there is still time to comment before the meeting.
New TMCL draft published
Monday, October 19th, 2009The editors have published a new TMCL draft, which will most likely go out for FDIS (Final Draft International Standard) ballot after the Leipzig meeting in November. This means that the editors consider TMCL to be just about finished.
In the official announcement the editors call for review and implementation of the current draft.
New TMCL draft published
Tuesday, June 16th, 2009The editors have just published a new draft of TMCL. This draft is quite stable, and is good enough to implement. The editors are asking for feedback, which can be sent to them by email, or on one of the Topic Maps mailing lists.
ISO meeting in Prague
Thursday, April 2nd, 2009The ISO committee met in Prague last week, and the Topic Maps working group (WG3) spent nearly all of its time making progress on TMCL. Lars Marius has blogged about this, and the meeting notes have also been published.
The formal recommendations also have some minor information on what’s going on.
Graphical TM modelling tool released
Monday, March 16th, 2009The TopicMapsLab has released a first version of Hannes Niederhausen’s Onotoa, which is a graphical modelling tool for Topic Maps based on the first GTM level 1 draft. It can export TMCL in CTM format and XTM.
TMCL becomes FCD
Wednesday, December 10th, 2008The results from the TMCL FCD (Final Committee Draft) ballot are now in, with 15 yes votes (three with comments), 0 no votes, and 12 abstentions. The abstentions mean that TMCL has not formally passed the ballot before an SC34 meeting decides that it has, but this is 99% certain to be just a formality.
